Saquon Barkley selected No. 2 overall by the New York Giants

The New York Giants selected former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 pick overall in Thursday night’s NFL Draft.

The 6-foot, 233-pound do-it-all back came off the board early, and that’s certainly not a surprise. We don’t usually see backs taken early in the NFL Draft anymore, but Barkley is different.

The ridiculously talented Coplay, Pennsylvania, native racked up an impressive 3,843 yards rushing with 43 rushing touchdowns during his career, while also adding an additional 1,195 yards receiving and eight receiving touchdowns.

During 2017 alone, Barkley added 426 kick return yards and two touchdowns to his resume. He combined for 1,903 yards from scrimmage and 23 total touchdowns, his best season as a Nittany Lion.

Barkley is very durable, thanks in part to his low compact frame and running style, and he’s known as a workout warrior in the weight room, too. Simply put, Barkley is the total package and should have a great NFL career. Not only that, but he’s a very marketable athlete, too.

Barkley was rated a 4-star prospect exiting high school, and he was ranked as the No. 119 player overall, the No. 13 overall running back and the state’s No. 2 overall player, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
