Maurice Hurst selected No. 140 overall by the Oakland Raiders

Former Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst was selected No. 140 overall by the Oakland Raiders in Saturday’s NFL Draft.

The Consensus All-American was a four-year letterman from 2014-17, and he racked up an impressive 130 total tackles, including 32 for loss and 13.5 sacks.

The Westwood, Massachusetts, native, is the son of former NFL cornerback Maurice Hurst, and he wears No. 73 because it’s the opposite of the number is father wore, No. 37.

Hurst has been criticized for his lack of size for an interior defensive lineman — listed at 6-foot-1 and 290 pounds, but what he lacks in size, he certainly makes up for in athleticism and disruption. He’s quick off the ball and has a violent first step, but he could have a tougher time with mauler offensive linemen.

Exiting high school, Hurst was rated a 4-star prospect, and he was ranked as the nation’s No. 21 overall defensive tackle and the state of Massachusetts No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
