The No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions are in the discussion for the B1G Conference title and the College Football Playoffs. While they are heavy contenders for the conference title, their road for the remainder of the season will not be easy.

Penn State kicked off its 2021 season with a defensive fight with No. 12 Wisconsin. The Nittany Lions won that game on the road in Madison with a 16-10 score. The following week, Penn State kicked up its efficiency on the offensive side of the ball by defeating Ball State at home 44-13.

ESPN FPI ranks Penn State’s remaining schedule as the No. 14 toughest schedule in the nation.

Penn State will have a big non-conference matchup this weekend over No. 22 Auburn. They will have three more opponents against teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 including a road game against No. 5 Iowa, a road game against No. 9, and a home game against No. 25 Michigan.

Here’s how ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) is projecting the rest of Penn State’s schedule:

  • Sept 18 vs. Auburn: 62.1%
  • Sept 25 vs. Villanova: 96.3%
  • Oct 2 vs. Indiana: 82.1%
  • Oct 9 @ Iowa: 48.2%
  • Oct 23 vs Illinois: 94%
  • Oct 30 @ Ohio State: 30.3%
  • Nov 6 @ Maryland: 74.9%
  • Nov 13 vs Michigan: 63.6%
  • Nov 20 vs Rutgers: 84%
  • Nov 27 @ Michigan State: 61.4%

FPI is projecting Penn State to finish the regular season with an overall record of 10-2. The Nittany Lions are expected to lose a close game on the road to Iowa at 48.2% and a tough loss on the road to Ohio State.

Penn State and Auburn kick off at 6:30 CT on Saturday in a White Out game.
