The Illinois Fighting Illini are tied for first place in the B1G West with Purdue. Yep, you heard that right. Usual cellar dweller Illinois has a legitimate shot at making it to Indianapolis for the B1G Championship this December.
They defeated Minnesota on Saturday afternoon 26-14. Rapper Ludacris on Saturday night, praised the Illini at a performance:

The Illini are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in B1G conference play; they have wins over Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. They are ranked in the top 25, checking at No. 24 with a chance to move up when the new poll comes out this afternoon.
Illinois is bowl eligible for the first time since 2019, when it finished 6-7 and lost in the Redbox Bowl to Cal 35-20. The Illini have their eyes set on something higher than the Redbox Bowl this season.
They are on the bye next week before a road trip to Lincoln to take on Nebraska. The Illini still have Michigan and Michigan State on the docket for their remaining crossover games.
A massive game against Purdue on November 12 in Champaign looms. The winner of the Purdue canon may very well end up winning the tumultuous B1G West.
